Classroom 9 3/4's By Emma

Image
On Thursday, October 28, 2021, Miss Mountain’s class had a “Harry Potter Day” at school. We had been reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in Reading, and now the Mountaineers had a chance to fully experience a day in the Wizarding world. On Thursday, the kids in Miss Mountion’s class walked through the ticket barriers diving platforms nine and ten and into a completely different classroom. It was covered in paintings and portraits of Harry Potter characters and colorful banners. (one for each house.) Some people came to school dressed up as Hogwarts students, and still others brought wands and stuffed magical animals from home. Even Miss Mountain dressed up! We had magical subjects too, like Divination, Potions, and Care of Magical Creatures! (They weren’t really magical subjects, just normal ones in disguise. Divination was Reading, Potions was Science, and Care of Magical Creatures was Writing.) At the end of the day, all of the Mountaineers took a class photo in front of Ho...

The Skittles experiment was a test to see if the skittles melted faster in hot or cold water and if it changed after doing it several times. It all started one Monday morning when Miss Mountain was going over our week.Up on the board spelled out Skittles experiment for every day of the week, immediately the class exploded but the next day when we started the skittles experiment everyone was silent, anxiously waiting to receive our Skittles and cups of hot and cold water. We set timers on our computers and when Miss Mountain said go, we dropped our Skittles in the cups of water and started the timers. The first time we had to stop because it was time to go out to snack, the next day though we finished and after everyone had dissolved we had a poll about which dissolved faster the hot or cold water skittle. The hot water Skittles won thus ending our experiment. I had predicted the cold water would dissolve the skittles faster but sadly I was wrong.  We turned in our skittles p...

We are Scientists!

Image
This week in school the Mountaineers began to investigate the different tools scientists use to experiment. There were different stations set up for groups around the classroom with tools like  rulers, hand lenses, scales, and thermometers. At one station we used a timer to time how long it took for a ball to stop rolling.       In addition to using science tools we also practiced skills that a scientist might use in the lab! For example we classified different beans and rocks into categories. It was a blast and we can’t wait for our next science adventure! By The Mountaineers! Mountaineers test the temperature of water using a thermometer!  Let's get classifying!

Our Usual Morning in December

So parents out there usually ask their kids what they did that day. While, we just walk right on by, and ignore them. Then go slump down on the couch and watch tv or video games. Well if you want to know what we’ve been doing in the morning, keep on readin! First off to start the day we talk about any good news for a few minutes. Then we answer our question of the day, and now it's time to start our real work.  We begin with Math, we have been working on adding and subtracting mixed numbers and fractions. Personally it takes a lot of grit because of how many steps there are to it. But, if that’s what we have to do to become Einstein, then so be it! Anyways… Mrs. Steinburg and Miss. Mountain (our amazing teachers),  give us about five minutes in the main room to warm up for fractions. Then we move into the breakout rooms and start working in our workbooks and whiteboards. Next, we get off the zoom, if we’re working from home. Then we head to clever for specials. CLEVER ...
